An interview with Thirumal Raj, the founder and CEO of ABC or Advanced Beauty & Cosmetic Clinic, a premium destination for advanced beauty and cosmetic procedures for both women and men.
Headquartered in Chennai, the clinic was incorporated in the year 2015 by first generation entrepreneurs, Thirumal Raj, Saran Vel, Lakshmi Raj and Madhu Saran who intended to establish a sustainable skill-based business that could carry the potential of growing year on year.
Comprising of three brands-Grohair, Maya Skin, and Minus, the fastest growing cosmetic clinic chain spreads out an entire gamut of advanced services in hair, skin and cosmetic treatments using latest technologies and innovations in the world that are cost effective.
Your role in the company
As the founder and CEO of ABC Clinic, I shoulder the responsibility of managing the company’s strategic growth planning, operations, marketing, finance and administration of the company.
A brief on your brand
Being a serial entrepreneur, I started my professional journey with Cognizant and currently on board of various organisations. ABC Clinic was incorporated in 2015 with a vision to provide aesthetic makeover for both men and women with world class treatments under one roof. My idea was to establish a brand that is trusted and is unequivocally chosen by everyone. At present my dream is to drive the brand to emerge as a market leader in the country’s cosmetic and beauty industry.
We as a group intended to establish a sustainable skill-based business that could carry the potential of growing year on year. ABC is comprised of three brands- Advanced Grohair, Maya Skin, and Minus:
Advanced Gro Hair is a one-stop complete hair solutions provider that uses advanced technology in treating hair restoration. Advanced GroHair offers international quality services with the latest in hair growth techniques, internationally trained surgeons, high standards of hygiene and customized customer care, at all affordable cost.
Maya Skin Clinic offers the finest Cosmetic dermatology and doxycycline skin care treatments using the latest skincare technology and innovations. This premium clinic promotes the idea of “Love your skin” through its FDA-approved skin treatment procedures that are equipped with world class technology.
Minus Cosmetic Clinic offers superlative cosmetic treatments to customers for the fat reduction through advanced Cryolipolysis. Equipped with the best international certified specialist, state-of-the-art infrastructure, cutting edge technology and techniques, zero-infection zones, stringent quality control and international- standard protocols, the clinic ensures patient safety and complete confidentiality.
What inspired you to bring this brand to India?
I was always fascinated about beauty industry. The international aesthetic business with cutting edge technologies was evolving and so after eight years of research we launched our brand “ Advanced Beauty and Cosmetic Clinic” in Chennai. We wanted the customers to experience customized cost effective treatments for treating body, hair and skin using latest technologies and innovations. The company foresees to create a niche position in this aesthetic industry and emerge as a strong player in the Indian market in the coming 5 years.
Today international aesthetic business is growing and the cutting edge technologies that are used for various treatments are helping the industry to grow tremendously. India is adapting these advancements and attracting customers’ world over. At Advanced Beauty and Cosmetic Clinic our efforts are focused on all people who are well aware of the consequences of the delay in taking action to treat problems such as hair loss, fat reduction. With the rising awareness of the cosmetic treatments, the demand of our services is increasing day by day. Beauty salon customers are migrating from product based solution to clinical solution where customers are treated by renowned dermatologists.
What have been your major challenges in the recent past? And how were you able to counter them?
The cosmetic industry is continuously evolving and keeping pace with the international market is a challenge for us. We are introducing new services and upgrading with latest technologies so that we serve the best to our customers.
What has been your unique marketing model and strategy?
We have initiated 365 days marketing campaigns and have been experiencing good conversion so far.We use all sort of marketing Communications to reach our customers. We have tied up with national Print media for daily advertisements. We have our own in house Social Media Experts for all online marketing. We also promote the Video Commercials in television channels.
What is the strength of your distribution network?
At present we have 3 company owned outlets and will be opening 3 franchise clinics by next month. We are planning a PAN India expansion. Internationally we plan to expand it to the Middle East.We also plan to expand it to 20 more clinics before next year end.
How has been the response until now?
Within a year of rolling out its operations, ABC Clinic is demonstrating positive sales projections across all its clinics and has also been introducing new advanced technologies in every quarter that are well-received in the market. Currently operational in Chennai the company aims to open at least 25 clinics in next 15-18 months with further expansion plans in India and Middle East.
The Revenue and business model of ABC Clinic
We follow clinical based treatments, as our doctors are very well trained and certified from international aesthetic bodies. Today, every person has different problem and we aim to provide specific treatment to our client. Where our doctors first analyse the problem area and provide the best treatment customised for the client.
Revenue model will be 85% to Franchise and 15% to Franchisor. We partner with people who have the passion towards aesthetic business with a strong vision to grow with the brand.
The expansion Plan of ABC Clinic
We are planning a PAN India expansion. Internationally we plan to expand it to the Middle East. The market size and the demand are growing day by day. The franchise model is one of the best models to expand our footprints in various other cities. The model will help to grow fast and reach local customer base. The resident franchise partner will understand the local customer and will help to provide the best services in the city.
