A brief on your brand
Our services include primarily NAILS. From exciting variants in Manicures and Pedicures, to extensions, Gel Polish and Nail art, we do it all. We also have an in-house polish brand – Ename. We are also the pioneers in India for EYELASH EXTENSIONS. The technicians have been trained by international trainers from Singapore. We do permanent eyelash extensions in Barbie & Single lashes which stay for approx 20-25 days & need regular touch ups post that. We have recently begun new services in Hair. We are now moving out to catering the Men segment as well with nail grooming services.
What inspired you to open NailSpa Experience in India?
There was a time when the nails business was really an unexplored one. I realised the extreme potential it had and Nailspa Experience begun. In fact today there are many other salons catering to nails especially apart from Nailspa Experience.
How has your business evolved over the years
Nails started trending in India big time in 2000. In 2006, when the market was still lacking standalone spas for Nails, we began our first Nailspa. In a span of 10 years, Nailspa Experience has Grown to Multiple Retail Outlets and all of them are exclusively into Nails and all the outlets are in prime location. In 3 yrs we have trained more than 35 Nail technicians out of that 27 are working with Nailspa Experience today.
What have been your major challenges ?
In a business like ours, competition doesn’t affect as much as high costs. Two of the major costs that we have to closely monitor is rentals and people costs. Ultimately it puts tremendous pressure on the profit margins. It’s not easy to build a service business, especially a retail service business. So we need to get the client in for the first time to come and experience the services. It’s a must. That first visit is very crucial. That could be achieved with putting up hoardings, free vouchers, tying up with local brands to ensure that we get the right segment into our stores. We customize our offering according to the catchment. In our business it’s easier to get clients than to get a good technical person. People will definitely visit the salons for their regular maintenance services like Refills, manicure/pedicure, colour-cut, facial, etc. But to scale up you need to push for a premium services and that’s where a good technician comes in to the picture.
Your unique marketing strategy
We regularly do tie-ups & promotions. We have done cross promotions and tie-ups with brands like Yes Bank, Air Vistara, Pizza Express, Zoya, Raw Pressery, & the list goes on. We are the only Nail brand in India to be a part of a fashion week. We showcased at India Beach Fashion Week with the gorgeous Shibani Dandekar as our show stopper.

We have four operational salons across Mumbai in prime locations like Khar, Oshiwara, Colaba and Breach Candy.

We are exclusively into Nails, that is our prime and only focus. Our Multiple Retail Outlets in prime location is one of our USP’s along with superior expertise in Nail Extension, Nail Art & Eyelash Extensions. We use the best products from across the globe like Ezflow, OPI, China Glaze, etc

How has been the response until now
The business is far more structured today than it was. Terms like values, processes, experiences, people, learning etc. have brought in a new lease of life. It has helped the business to scale up. The costs have gone up to such an extent that it is no more an individual game. You can’t create a big brand.
Your future plans for expansion
In terms of expansion, we intend to have 10 more salons, open and operational by next year with a minimum investment of 30-35 lacs per salon. We also intend to have an academy & own range of products in the near future. We will be present in every metro by next year. Our aim is to educate & enhance the people of India about nails and its trend!
